October 2026 Events in North County San Diego
October is the month I schedule my most serious buyer tours. The light goes gold by late afternoon, the marine layer lifts early, and the calendar fills with events that residents actually attend. This year it carries something rarer than a festival: Encinitas turns forty, and the whole coast is invited to the party.

In September, the coast hands itself back to residents. In October, they throw the parties. Here is the month, curated.

Del Mar Wine + Food Festival: September 30–October 4
The month opens mid-festival. The Del Mar Wine + Food Festival runs five days, culminating in a two-day Grand Tasting on Saturday, October 3, and Sunday, October 4, across the fields of Surf Sports Park on Via de la Valle. More than 100 chefs and restaurants pour alongside over 150 wineries, breweries, and distillers. General admission runs 1 to 4 p.m.; Early Entry opens at noon and VIP at 11:30 a.m. The event is 21 and over.
My advice is the same every year: buy the early-entry ticket. The first hour is when the chefs still have time to talk, and the conversations are the point.
Encinitas Turns 40: Saturday, October 3
Encinitas incorporated in 1986, uniting Cardiff-by-the-Sea, Leucadia, Historic Downtown Encinitas, New Encinitas, and Olivenhain into one city while letting each keep its own welcome sign. On Saturday, October 3, the city celebrates with a free, 1980s-themed day.
At Pacific View Arts Center, screen printing runs 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., a chalk art party from noon to 3:30, and an '80s line-dance session from 2:30 to 4. The day then moves to Moonlight Beach: tribute band BETAMAXX plays from 4 to 6 p.m., followed by an outdoor screening of Back to the Future from 6:30 to 8:30. Bring blankets and low-back chairs. The Encinitas Historical Society also hosts free activities at the 1883 Schoolhouse, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
This is the most useful day of the year for anyone weighing Encinitas. The five-communities-in-one-city structure explains why Leucadia and Olivenhain feel nothing alike despite sharing a zip-code conversation — and on October 3, you can see all of it in one afternoon.
Taste of Carlsbad Village: Thursday, October 8
Taste of Carlsbad Village returns Thursday, October 8, from 5 to 8 p.m. — a self-guided passport tour through downtown, with signature bites from dozens of Village restaurants and Sip Stops hosted inside local shops. The Carlsbad Village Association caps attendance at 1,000, and the 2026 edition sold out in 33 minutes.
If you don't hold a ticket, walk the Village that evening anyway. The energy on State Street is the clearest preview of what a Thursday night feels like when you live within walking distance of it.
Mid-Month: Harvest Festival and Día de los Muertos in Solana Beach
The Del Mar Harvest Festival fills the Del Mar Fairgrounds Friday through Sunday, October 16–18, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily, with hundreds of artisans selling handmade jewelry, décor, and original art.
On Sunday, October 18, Solana Beach and the La Colonia Community Foundation host the city's annual Día de los Muertos at La Colonia Park, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. This year honors the veterans of La Colonia de Eden Gardens, opening with a color guard at 10. More than 40 altars anchor the day, alongside Ballet Folklórico, Mariachi Del Mar, and a classic car show. Free; parking is limited. It is one of the most distinguished community events on this coast, and it reflects a side of Solana Beach that rarely makes the brochures.
Late October: A Fandango, an Ofrenda, and Halloween
On Saturday, October 24, the Rancho Santa Fe Historical Society hosts its Fandango Street Party from 5 to 8 p.m. at La Flecha House on Via de Santa Fe — margaritas, a taco bar, and live music. It is the Ranch at its most relaxed, and the right introduction for anyone who has only seen Rancho Santa Fe from behind a gate.
On Sunday, October 25, the Encinitas Día de los Muertos Celebration runs noon to 4 p.m. at MiraCosta College's San Elijo Campus in Cardiff, with art workshops, mariachi, and a Community Ofrenda. Free.
The month closes Saturday, October 31, with Halloween in the Village in Carlsbad: business-to-business trick-or-treating from 2 p.m., carnival games at the Boys & Girls Club from 3 to 7, and a costume contest at Village Faire at 4. For families with young children, this is the most walkable Halloween in North County.
A Note on Timing and Details
Dates, hours, and ticketing shift. Confirm with each organizer before you plan: delmar.wine for the festival, the City of Encinitas and the Encinitas Historical Society for the 40th, the Carlsbad Village Association and Visit Carlsbad for Taste and Halloween, the City of Solana Beach, the Rancho Santa Fe Historical Society, and the San Diego Tourism Authority at sandiego.org. The anchors above are set.
Why This Month Matters
October is when buyers stop sightseeing and start comparing. A September visit tells you the coast is beautiful; an October visit tells you which community you belong to. Spend the 40th on Moonlight Beach, a Thursday on State Street, and a Saturday evening in the Covenant, and the differences between Encinitas, Carlsbad, and Rancho Santa Fe become something you feel rather than read about.
After $200M+ in closed sales across this coast, the pattern is consistent: clients who experience these communities at their own rhythm make clearer, faster, more confident decisions. October offers that rhythm in its most refined form.
If an October on this coast has you picturing more than a weekend, I'd welcome showing you the neighborhoods behind the calendar — privately, and at your pace.
